Thirty-One Miles From One End to the Other
Scottsdale covers 184.5 square miles and stretches thirty-one miles north to south. It is the largest city we work in by a wide margin, and the least densely settled of the five. Two Scottsdale addresses can be further apart than two cities are elsewhere in the Valley.
For a repair visit that changes the logistics, not the electrical work. What we carry matters more, what we establish on the phone matters more, and a return trip for a part is a genuinely different proposition from one in a compact town.
So we front-load. Sharee asks more on the first call than you might expect; we bring the likely parts alongside the certain ones, and we ask what else is on your list before the van is loaded.
A City That Rewards Getting It Right the First Time
Scottsdale is 184.5 square miles and thirty-one miles top to bottom. Every other city we cover fits inside a fraction of that, and the difference is not academic when somebody has to drive it twice.
The electrical work is the same work it would be anywhere. What changes are the consequences of being wrong about what the job needs? A missing part in a compact city is an inconvenience. Across thirty-one miles it takes a good deal more of the day, and the day is yours as much as ours.
So the preparation moves to the front of the job. Sharee asks about symptoms in more detail than seems necessary. We ask for the whole list before loading. We bring the parts that are probably needed, along with the ones that certainly are.
The aim is for the visit to finish in one trip, which is the only version that works for either of us. Where a second visit is genuinely unavoidable, we say so while we are still standing there and book it before we leave.
Scottsdale Repair Questions
1.Why do you ask so many questions on the phone?
Because the answers decide what is on the van when it arrives, and this city is long enough that a second trip costs you another appointment. Ten minutes on the phone routinely turns two visits into one.
2.Will you get to everything on my list in one visit?
That is the aim, and it depends on the list being complete when we load. Small items fold easily into an existing visit and need a visit of their own otherwise, so the time to mention them is now.
3.Can you tell over the phone whether I need a visit?
Sometimes, and we will say so when the answer is no. Some faults are settled by a description and a couple of checks you can do standing where you are. We would rather establish that than drive out to confirm it.
4.I have a list, but some of it is trivial. Should I include it?
Include it. The judgment about what is trivial is easier to make with the panel open than from the kitchen, and the small items are frequently connected to the one that made you call.
5.What does a repair cost?
No published figure, because the fault decides it. Diagnosis comes first; you see the finding, and you approve the work before it happens.
